iOS 7 Beta 4 camera/photos Bugs: Photos Go Black

Those of you testing iOS 7 Beta 4 may or may not have stumbled upon this annoying Photos bug, but I think it deserves some attention.

We’re testing iOS 7 on an iPhone 4S here at Softpedia, and our mileage is consistent with other developers’ reports. This time around, I want to highlight a new bug that seems to be inherent to iOS 7 Beta 4.

Take any picture using the stock Camera app and then try to view it full-screen in the Photos app. At least on our test unit (a 16GB iPhone 4S) any photo taken after the installation of the latest iOS 7 build goes dark when you try to view it in the Photos app.

As the screenshots below show, the grid view works fine. But when you tap an image to open it (or try to share it with someone), the preview goes black.

We’ve discovered that the bug can be triggered only in the Photos application – i.e. viewing the same images in Dropbox shows every pixel in all its glory.

It’s also worth noting that any pictures taken with a different camera application (a third-party solution like Camera+) will display just fine in the Photos app.

The bug seems to be caused by the iOS 7 “launch” animation which zooms into the object you’ve just tapped.

And yes, I know there's an actual bug in the photos. We've been visited by a mantis today. Same time. Same place. Just like last year.
